Our final class! Class 24 looks at Romans 1-Jude 1 – How to Live as Christians and Revelation 1-22 – Victory!
So far we have seen the story of redemption:
1. God created the world.
2. Sin entered the world.
3. God promised a solution.
4. Jesus accomplished salvation.
5. The kingdom arrived.
6. We enter the kingdom.
I’m a Christian…now what?
Romans 1-Jude 1 – How to Live as Christians
Some suggestions and A Simple Outline
Continue
God did not merely save us from sin—He saved us for a new life
The Christian life is learning to become like Jesus
God gave us a new family – “One another”
Christians grow
Christians fight sin
Christians have purpose
Christians live differently
Christians suffer differently
Christians are filled with hope
When Christians keep walking forward, and do not go back, we can know we are saved
God is not merely interested in JUST getting people to heaven; He is creating a people who look like Jesus.
Revelation 1-22 – Victory!
Revelation 1:1 – “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,”
Two things
“Revelation” – apokalypsis
Definition
laying bare, making naked, a disclosure of truth, instruction concerning things before unknown, used of events by which things or states or persons hitherto withdrawn from view are made visible to all
“must soon take place”
Revelation 1:1/Revelation 22: 6
Bookends with the phrase “must soon take place”
(Just like Acts 1:3/Acts 28:31 and “the kingdom”)
So whatever the rest of the book says, it’s going to take place soon
“Last Days”
What does “last days” mean?
-Last period of time. We are in that now.
How long have we been in the last days?
-2000 years
How long will we be in the last days?
-No one knows. Matthew 24:36 – “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only”
Isaiah 2:2 and Micah 4:1 – The church will be established in the “last days”
Acts 2:17 Looks back at Joel 2 and says these are those days, the last days
Hebrews 1:2 – “in these last days.”
The word “throne” appears sixteen times in chapters 4 and 5. The One on the throne is God.
Why is this important to the persecuted Christians? God is in control.
Revelation 6:9-10 – 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
Revelation 6-19 is God’s answer to this question. God will make all things right.
Revelation 20-22 is God’s final revelation to man. It closes with a picture of inevitable victory.
God is on His throne and Jesus reigns at His right hand. The Holy Spirit offers the invitation in Revelation 22:17 – “The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”
Revelation 20:10 – Stan is defeated and thrown into the lake of fire
Revelation 21:8 – The ungodly are also thrown into the lake of fire
Revelation 21:4 – The righteous are welcomed home
Revelation 21:4 – “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
How can this be? Revelation 22:21 – “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”
We are fighting from victory, not for victory. Jesus has already won. Will you win with Him?
The Bible begins with God and man together in a perfect garden. Sin separated mankind from God, but from the moment sin entered, God promised a Savior. Through Abraham, Israel, the prophets, and finally Jesus Christ, God accomplished redemption. The kingdom has now come, and through faith, repentance, and baptism we enter that kingdom. The letters teach us how to live as God’s people while we wait with hope. Revelation assures us that the King wins, evil loses, and one day God and His people will dwell together forever. The Bible ends where it began—not in a garden, but in the presence of God forever.
