Twenty-one of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament are letters originally sent to an individual Christian, a single church, or a group of congregations in the same geographic region. As we read the New Testament, it helps to notice to whom a book (letter or epistle) was written, by whom, and for what purpose (the theme of the book). As with the other books of the New Testament, each book centers on Jesus Christ.
