INTRODUCTION

Written by Moses under divine inspiration, Genesis is the first book of the Bible and lays the foundation for all Scripture. Its name means “origin,” and it records the beginning of the world, humanity, sin, and God’s covenant with His chosen people. The book covers approximately 2,300 years of early history and is divided into two main parts: primeval history (chapters 1–11) and patriarchal history (chapters 12–50). Genesis highlights key events such as Creation, the Flood, and the call of Abraham, and it traces the lives of the patriarchs—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. It is heavily theological, introducing vital doctrines such as monotheism, divine sovereignty, and the promises that anticipate the Messiah. It was likely written between 1446 and 1406 bc.
