Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Highers says he was fortunate to have parents who taught him the Bible from an early age. His love of justice led him to pursue a career in law. For nearly 30 years, he has served as a member of the Tennessee judiciary. He has also served as editor of The Spiritual Sword, has spoken at many lectureships. and is a long-time supporter of Polishing the Pulpit. He is a past recipient of the Lifetime Service Award given anually by the directors of PTP. Highers and his wife, Sandra Bruce Highers, are members of the Henderson Church of Christ,
TN. They have two married daughters and four grandchildren.
