Parenteen Program
Congratulations on your expected little one! This new life is a blessing to be loved and cherished. We welcome you to ParenTeen where you will not be judged or made to feel different. You will be surrounded by other teen moms and dads who have all the same fears and expectations you do. You will also be working with a small group of adults who genuinely care about you and your baby. We know you can succeed and we want to help you in any way we can.
Did you know?
· 60% of teen mothers drop out of school.
· Only 50% of teen mothers will have their GED by age 30.
· Teen mothers earn 50% less than those who have children after the age of 19.
· Children of teen parents are more likely to be abused.
· 5% of children born to teen parents will end up in foster care.
· 1 in 4 teen moms will have a second child within 2 years of the first.
At ParenTeen you are not a statistic. You are a unique person who can overcome challenges. You can beat the odds! The ParenTeen Program is a 13 week course that will give you the skills you need to become a great parent. Topics will include:
· Basic newborn care and safety
· Feeding your infant
· How to soothe your baby using the 5 S’s
· Baby budgeting
· Baby bonding
· Father involvement
· Available resources
· Discipline
· New directions
Classes will be each Thursday night beginning January 8th at 6pm and lasting until 715pm. Expectant mothers and fathers between the ages of 15 and 20 are welcome to attend. There will be plenty of hands on activities, games, and humor. You will receive Baby Bucks for each class you attend. Baby Bucks can be used to purchase items for your new baby in our Rock-a-Buy-Baby store.
Participants will also get to take part in our Mentor Moms program. Each expectant mother will have a Mentor Mom. This mom will be there for you if you ever need support. She will be your friend and guide during this new time in your life. She will be a big help to you, because she has raised her own children and knows all about the difficulties and joys of motherhood.
