Things Only a Mom Can Teach

Topic(s): Mother, Humor

My mother taught me about anticipation: "Just wait until your father gets home."

My mother taught me about receiving; "You are going to get it when we get home."

My mother taught me to meet a challenge; "What were you thinking'? Answer me when I talk to you! Don't talk back to me!"

My mother taught me about logic; "If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."

My mother taught me to think ahead; "If you don't pass your spelling test you'll never get a good job."

My mother taught me about humor; "When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me."

My mother taught me how to become an adult; "If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up."

My mother taught me about genetics; ''You're just like your father."

My mother taught me about my roots; "Do you think you were born in a barn?'

And my all time favorite: justice; "One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you ... Then you'll see what it's like!"

Just For Mom

Topic(s): Mother, Love

When I was just a tiny tot,
A problem this I know,
I brought you many headaches,
And I caused you grief and woe.

For years you cared for me,
But now my baby days are through-
And turn about's fair play, dear Mom,
Now I'll take care of you.

It always makes me happy when
I find some little thing
That perhaps may make you happy-
Make you laugh or want to sing.

But no matter what I do for you,
I know twill never be
Enough to pay you back,
For what you've done for me.

The years are swiftly rolling by,
And gray is in your hair;
Don't think that I don't know, Mom,
That I helped to put it there.

But as long as God permits me
To stay beneath the blue,
I'll do my best to show you, Mom
How much I care for you.

Young Mothers, We Love You!

Topics(s) --> Mother, Children

What better way to express how we appreciate young mothers? The things written in this article are representative of the thinking of many Christians. They remind us of our responsibility, our challenge, and our hope for the future. Mothers, we salute you! And if you want to know why, keep on reading.

WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE: God has committed to your trust and care the priceless gift of little children. They are "a heritage of the Lord," and a reward to womanhood (Psa. 127:3).

WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE: little children are a blessing to all people. Think how dull and insipid life would be without the sight and sound of little children. They are examples for us in so many ways. We need to observe their love, innocence, humility, purity, and forgiving spirit (Mt. 18: 1-4: I ('or. 14:20).

WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE: we know how keenly and fearfully you feel about your responsibility to love, teach, train, nurture, provide for, and be an example to your children (Tit. 2:4: 1 Tim. 5:2; 3 Tim. 1:5; Prov. 22:6: Deut. 6: 4-9). You have shown your concern by taking advantages of opportunities provided by the church to help you in your task.

WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE: we know from experience how much of your time, energy, and patience it takes just to bring your children to Bible study and worship services whenever the saints assemble. Yet, it is "worth it" and for sake of the children and the Lord's church please don't let up. So many are counting on you.

WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE: you arc trying to guide little minds toward the goal or sincere and mature worship and service to God. All of us who have tried to do the same know that it is not always easy to get up on a day when most don't have to worry about getting the family off to work and school, when you are still tired from a busy week, and maybe not feeling well, and get ready for Bible study and worship.

And when we hear little voices and shuffling during services don't be embarrassed. It just means a young mother cared enough to make the effort. Don't give up - God will bless you for it.

The Passing Years

Topics(s) --> Time, Wisdom

Life passes by so fast, Lord I know I’m sure to miss
A vital part unless You keep reminding me of this.
There's so much that I want to do, a lot I've left undone,
So many plans discarded--and a few I’ve not begun.

Life passes by so fast. Lord how often I've been told,
It always does around the time we're growing old,
"For everything there's a season" is wise as well as just,
But I had rather wear me out, than fall apart with rust.

Life passes by so fast, Lord, the days, months, the years,
Lord keep a smile upon my lips, and blot away my tears
Teach me to lean upon Your arm - when pain and sickness strike,
To tell the facts from fancies, that sometimes look alike

Life passes by so fast, Lord, and yet how kind You are
In granting me the precious years that I have had so far.
So let the days grow shorter, the darkest shadows part,
But put the wrinkles on my face... And please, Lord, never on my heart!
