The King James version of the Bible is so named because England’s
King James the First commissioned 47 scholars to produce a new
translation of the Scriptures. This was done in the early 1600's,
and the King James is generally accepted as being first published in
1611. The King James Version is sometimes called the Authorized
Version for this same reason.
Many people are confused about the King James Version. The King
James Version we have in our possession today is in few ways similar
to the original translation. The first translation was written in
Old English and contained the apocrypha.
Today’s King James Version has been revised to reflect modern
English, and there are slight variations even among today’s
renditions (e.g., some use the word “Timotheus” while others use
“Timothy”).
