I think it is most appropriate to have "table talks" with
scripture readings before the observance of the Lord's Supper. Since
1999, I have traveled each year to Ghana, West Africa. They have an
extended talk (sometimes 10 minutes or more) before the bread and
another before the cup. They also have an exhortation before the
giving, with a prayer before and after the contribution.
One thing I would advise . . . if one is going to make a talk, he
needs to be prepared instead of getting up and rambling or mumbling.
I have witnessed such and it is devastating to the congregation's
observance. This advice carries over to all others participating in
leadership roles in a worship service as well.
