Bible question

What does Hebrews 8:1-2 mean?

Topic(s):  Bible Study

Hebrews 8:1-2 speaks of the High Priesthood of Jesus and His permanent place in the presence of God.

The purpose of the High Priest under the Law of Moses was to make an annual sin offering on behalf of all the children of God (Leviticus 16; Hebrews 9:7). Once a year he would go into the Most Holy Place and make intercession for the people. Hebrews 8:1 tells us that Jesus, our High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16) does not enter once into the Most Holy Place, but rather resides there for all eternity.

His function is to make intercession for all the children of God (Christians, a.k.a. the church), who are here described as "the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched (Matthew 16:18) and not man."

Hebrews 7:11 - 9:28 should be studied carefully to gain a more complete understanding of the text in question.
