The display of the Ten Commandments is not a matter of biblical
concern for the Christian. It is a matter of personal opinion that
will ultimately be decided by the courts. I do admit that I am
concerned about the removal of our religious heritage from the
public domain.
I have no problem with the public display of the Ten Commandments.
They are chiseled into the walls of some of our most famous
buildings in Washington DC. I don't see the harm in it. However, one
should remember that the 10 commandments have no authority over men
today. As being a part of the Mosaic Law, the 10 commandments were a
part of what Jesus nailed to the cross (Ephesians 2:11-18;
Colossians 2:11-16).
I would prefer that the teachings of Jesus be on display . . . in
the lives of people who profess to be followers of Him. "The Golden
Rule" of Matthew 7:12 would be a great place to start. The greatest
commandment and the second greatest
(cf Matthew 22:37ff) would also be definite "culture changers" if
people would be diligent to follow them.
