The word meditate as used in the New Testament means to "give
diligence to" or to "think upon." In the Old Testament, David spoke
of meditating on God's word day and night (Psalms 1:2; 63:6).
I believe a fair definition of meditating would be for one to read
the word of God, then sit in quiet contemplation of what has been
read, then to ponder how that word can be practiced in one's life.
An example of this might be as follows: a sheep or cow eats grass,
then later lies down to chew the cud, finally digesting what is
chewed to the growth of the body.
