Bible question

Concerning the Book of Life, when are our names put there and how does it get there?

Todd Clippard

Topic(s): Eternity & Judgment, Heaven

A cross-study of the words/phrases "Book of Life," "overcometh"/"overcame", and the "blood of the Lamb" revealed the following connections (all passages KJV):

Revelation 3:5 --- "He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels."

Revelation 12:10-11 --- "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."

Revelation 7:13-15 --- "And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them."

Revelation 1:5 --- "Unto him who loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood."

Revelation 20:12-15 --- "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

Revelation 21:27 --- "And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life."

In thinking of these passages, and thinking of the means by which we are washed from our sins (baptism), the only logical conclusion is that one's name is entered into the Book of Life at baptism. Faithful living keeps one name written there (cf 1 John 1:7; Rev 3:5; 22:19).
