Bible question

How often is the Second Coming mentioned in the Bible?

Todd Clippard

Topic(s): Eternity & Judgment

This is a difficult question to answer, primarily because it is nigh unto impossible to research without taking time to carefully read the entire Bible.  Sometimes the second coming is straightly told, at other times it is alluded to or implied.  Suffice it to say the New Testament speaks numerous times of the actuality and events surrounding the second coming of Jesus.  Consider the following passages:

Matthew 16:27

Matthew 25:31-46

John 5:28-29

John 14:3

Acts 1:11

1 Corinthians 5:5

2 Corinthians 1:14

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

2 Thessalonians 1:6-10

2 Thessalonians 2:1

1 Timothy 4:1

Hebrews 9:28

2 Peter 3:10

Revelation 1:7

There are also numerous passages in the Old Testament, particularly the prophets, which not only speak to the conditions of their day, but may also have reference to the second coming (cf Isa 25:8).
